Joan Cashimira's workshop was founded nearly a century ago in Gata de Gorgos, a village near Alicante in Spain.

The name Cashimira is an abbreviation of the founder's name, Jose Antonio Caselles Miralles, the grandfather of the present owner.

With his technical ability, craft skills and deep love of the instrument and its music, his first effort was a great success, and with the help of his son, he started making guitars full time. From the start, his guitars were in demand by musicians, who after all are the best judges.

Jose Antonio, the grandson of the founder, is the present owner and Luthier, the 3rd generation to carry forward the family's accumulated wisdom, experience and craftsmanship, continually striving to attain perfection in the instrument's construction.

Taking into consideration the demands and expectations of today's musicians, special care is taken with all aspects of manufacture, including selection and optimal long term storage and seasoning of tone woods and timbers, humidity and temperature controlled storage and workshop areas and a combination of traditional and modern construction techniques.

Jose Antonio says:- "It is not just the assembly of pieces of wood, it goes beyond that, it is an art that achieves a special sound. It gives soul to the instrument, that in the right hands will produce extraordinary sounds and musical possibilities".

Timbers used include:- Indian and Brazilian Rosewood, Ebony, Walnut, Boubinga, Padauk, Mahogany, Cypress and for the soundboards:- Canadian Cedar and German Spruce. These woods are seasoned slowly and naturally, until sufficiently dry to be used.

The Cashimira workshop makes around 2000 guitars per year, of which 300 are the Luthier models.

Cashimira guitars are played by the world's top musicians, including:-

Aldo La Grutta, Venezuela
Guy Guyvers, Belgium
Edin Solis, Costa Rica
Pablo Ortiz, Costa Rica
David Parra, Spain
